A small town of about 30000 inhabitants near Florence,
Calenzano has two distinct faces: a mountainous one,
characterised by woods, olive trees, villas
and farms, the other flat and industrial.
The original nucleus of Calenzano arose
around the Castle above a hill, whereas the
new center developed on the plain below. The
first sure date of the old settlement is 1134 when a
noble florentine family ordered the building of the
castle.
